I am currently booking weddings for 2020. Getting married? Let’s chat!

Video Transcript:

Hello! Pamela Anticole here and today we are going to talk about the ONLY reason you should do an engagement session with your photographer before your wedding day.

That means I am NOT going to talk about using your pictures for Save the dates or a newspaper announcement or your wedding website.

Nope!

The REAL reason to do an engagement session is to get BETTER wedding portraits.

Here’s why.

Taking engagement pictures with your wedding photographer is PRACTICE for your wedding day.

ONE. If you or your partner have any sort of anxiety about being in front of the camera, this is a great time to work out those nerves. At the onset of your session we will grab coffee or tea or beverage of your choice and we will take time to get to know each other a little better. It makes it so much easier when we get things started!

TWO. The engagement session is a dry run! I will experiment with different styles of posing and prompting to figure out what works best for YOU. Every couple is different; some can ignore me completely and play around with each other no problem, while other couples need lots of direction. There is no right or wrong for this! I learn over the course of the session what works and what doesn’t for YOU. It’s a great relaxed setting to do so.

THREE. AFTER the session we talk about what worked and what didn’t. Are you sensitive about certain angles/expressions? Maybe you can’t stand your profile and want to avoid side shots. Maybe you could care less what you look like as long as you look happy! Which pictures are your favorite and why? Were the pictures better when I gave MORE direction or LESS?  Essentially I walk away from this conversation thoroughly prepared with specific goals for your wedding day photo session.

SOOO Why is all of this important?

On your wedding day we will most likely have a very tight timeline, and it is important to knock out photos as quickly as possible. The LAST thing you want to do is spend your whole wedding day being directed by your photographer. (even one as fun as I am!) Since we’ve done a photoshoot together before, we know EXACTLY the types of photos we want to produce, and how to do it. Let’s knock ‘em out and GET YOU TO THE PARTY!!!

SO Assuming it is important to you to have a variety of great portraits of you as a couple on your wedding day, then you SHOULD prioritize doing an engagement session ahead of time. Because it is THE best way to ensure great wedding portraits from your photographer.
