Welcome! I photograph bar mitzvahs and bat mitzvahs for families in Pittsburgh who want their child’s day documented honestly and respectfully. My approach is documentary, focused on real moments, meaningful relationships, and the natural rhythm of the day- from the synagogue service through the celebration.
Becoming a bar mitzvah or bat mitzvah is a milestone rooted in tradition, family, and transition; and I approach documenting it with the same care and attentiveness I bring to weddings and family work.

Becoming a bar mitzvah or bat mitzvah is a milestone rooted in tradition, family, and transition; and I approach documenting it with the same care and attentiveness I bring to weddings and family work.
More than anything I want you to have time to enjoy your people: all those friends and family who gather to celebrate with you. Even crazy Uncle Bob! It’s your wedding day, not a day-long portrait session, and I 1000% respect that.
My priority is yours: celebrating the laughter and joy and tears and hugs and all of the in between. I am also looking beyond the obvious, flipping my camera around on your guests. The photos you receive from me are candid, authentic, and natural; often of moments that you may never even realize happened. Ultimately I want to show you the story of your wedding day from your guest’s point of view.
It doesn’t take long to create some beautiful, relaxed wedding portraits together. But the rest of the day shouldn’t be directed by me. Enjoy yourself! I am just there to document it.

A bar or bat mitzvah is about far more than a single moment at the bimah. It’s about preparation, pride, a connection to culture, and of course the support of generations in one room.
I photograph these days with an eye toward what unfolds naturally... The quiet focus or nerves before the service. The expressions exchanged between parents and grandparents. Kids yawning! And of course all the hugs, as the weight of the moment lifts and the celebration begins.
My goal is to create a visual record that feels true to your family and to this important step in your child’s life.

Coverage can include any combination of the following, depending on your plans and your synagogue’s guidelines:
Every bar and bat mitzvah is different, and coverage is always tailored to the flow of your day. We will have conversations ahead of time so that we can determine the best time for me to be there, to capture your son or daughter's unique celebration!

Photographing a synagogue service requires awareness, respect, and restraint. I am mindful of the sacred nature of the service and work quietly and unobtrusively, following synagogue guidelines and coordinating in advance when needed.
Knowing when to step forward and when to step back is essential. My role is to document what’s happening without disrupting it, allowing your family and guests to remain fully present in the moment.

My approach to bar mitzvah photography is rooted in observation rather than direction. I’m always watching for the in between moments that give the day its emotional texture. This documentary style is the same approach I bring to weddings and family photography- and that I learned while working for the newspaper. It allows the story of the day to unfold naturally and results in images that feel lived in, personal, and lasting.

Have you photographed synagogue services before? Will you work with our synagogue’s photography rules?
Absolutely! I’m happy to coordinate in advance and follow any specific rules or expectations. I know that some synagogues prefer I remain outside the sanctuary while photographing, others ask I stay behind the guests, and still others have more flexible rules for where I place myself. In all of these circumstances I am always aware of the sanctity of the service and do my best to capture emotional moments while remaining as inconspicuous as possible.
Can you photograph both the service and the celebration?
Yes- many families choose coverage that includes both the service and the party, often with kiddush as well. When you book 8 hours of coverage or more, you have the option to split coverage between morning service and evening party. We can work out the details based on what's best for your son or daughter's day!
How far in advance should we book a bar mitzvah photographer?
Most families book about a year in advance, especially for popular dates, but you’re always welcome to reach out to check availability.
Do you offer albums for bar mitzvahs?
Yes! Albums are very popular and can be customized to reflect the full story of the day.
"We knew Pamela was the right fit for our special day from moment she arrived at our event. She just connected with our family. Having a photographer at your bar mitzvah is about more than just the pictures. Pamela made every one from newborns to seniors feel comfortable, but never rushed. I can honestly say she caught all of our memories. Her photos truly tell a story about our special day. Pamela was open to requests for special photos that we wanted to have, and she got every single one. She had a beautiful way of capturing small details that I never would have even thought of. Pamela worked well with all of the other vendors we had at our event also, which is important on your special day. I will definitely use Pamela again. She was patient with us as we selected the photos we wanted to be printed and prompt in the delivery of our prints after the event, and they were stunning. We look at our photos often and get many compliments on them. You will definitely not be disappointed with Pamela's photography, style, demeanor, or professionalism. I feel lucky that we found such an amazing photographer!"
