I had SO much fun photographing Li Yen and Wee for their engagement session! We wandered their alma mater, Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), before changing clothes and walking along the North Shore for some sunset photos in front of the river. Here are a handful of my favorite photos from their session!
Li Yen and Wee contacted me because they were looking for natural, relaxed engagement photos in a photojournalistic style. College friends, Li Yen says she knew of Wee because they shared the same engineering major; and he was Singaporan and she was from Malaysia. They first spoke to each other in the CMU library when she asked him for help, so of course we had to do photos there- along with Scaife Hall where they spent most of their time. 🙂
Despite graduating from CMU together, they didn’t start dating until years later- such a great love story! I love that they decided to do photos back in Pittsburgh where their story started, and I am honored they invited me in to help them tell it.
During their engagement session, Li Yen and wee brought a fun playful vibe, and we had a ton of fun wandering around and finding photo spots. I was surprised when they showed up with balloons, and we had fun incorporating them into some of the photos on campus! I really loved using the balloons for a great wide photo of the couple kissing in front of the College of Fine Arts, with these beautiful textural clouds above. AND after the session they gifted the balloons to my kids, so big BONUS to me! 🙂
Carnegie Mellon is stately and elegant, with arches and covered walkways that provide fantastic architectural elements for engagement photos… not to mention Schenley Park is just adjacent, offering a less collegiate/more park-like vibe. On campus at night the Randy Pausch Bridge lights up and would be a fun place to do flash photography as well, though we didn’t stick around for that. 🙂 Instead at sunset we drove down to the North Shore to grab some relaxed pictures of this bride and groom walking in front of the city of Pittsburgh. It was a beautiful night (we saw several photographers out and about!) and we had so much fun wrapping up the photoshoot on Pittsburgh’s iconic yellow bridges.
