Photojournalist Who Photographs Weddings | Amy Julia & Ry’s Adventures on the Gorge Wedding

When Amy Julia and Ry began searching for a photojournalist who photographs weddings, they knew exactly what they wanted.

Both are journalists living in Brooklyn, New York. Years ago, they met while working as reporters at rival newspapers in West Virginia. Their careers revolve around storytelling, observation, and documenting real moments.

So when it came time to plan their wedding, they were drawn to the same approach.

They wanted a photographer who could quietly observe the day, capture the candid moments at their wedding, and allow them to spend more of their time focused on the people they love.

This Adventures on the Gorge wedding in West Virginia was photographed by a Pittsburgh documentary wedding photographer specializing in candid, photojournalistic coverage. For couples searching for a photojournalist who photographs weddings, this celebration is a perfect example of storytelling-focused wedding photography.

As a Pittsburgh documentary wedding photographer, that philosophy immediately resonated with me! And I was especially honored that they picked me to photograph their Adventures on the Gorge wedding.

Why Journalists Chose a Photojournalist Who Photographs Weddings

It’s not every day that two professional journalists hire a photojournalist who photographs weddings, but in many ways it makes perfect sense.

Journalists are trained to notice the small details. The moments between moments. The authentic reactions that tell a deeper story.

That’s exactly what documentary wedding photography is built around.

Instead of directing every interaction or carefully staging each photograph, a documentary wedding photographer observes what naturally unfolds. The goal isn’t perfection. The goal is honesty.

Amy Julia and Ry put it beautifully when they said they were hoping for someone who could “capture all the candid moments at our wedding and allow us to spend more of our time focused on our friends and family.”

That philosophy shaped their entire wedding day.

Everything about their wedding day unfolded in one beautiful location.

Starting off the day with guests relaxing on the Adventures on the Gorge property, in a large standing home where bride, groom, and many of their guests got ready for the day.
