I was so excited to join Christina and Kenny for their Birth Place session (commonly known as Fresh 48) at Magee Hospital, welcoming little baby V. Mom Christina is a talented filmmaker here in Pittsburgh and we often work together on weddings… plus I think she is pretty AWESOME… so it was a TREAT to get her sweet family behind my camera!
Baby was born late Thursday night and I met them in their hospital room at Magee Saturday afternoon. Big brother C was there, too, and he was SO incredibly gentle with his new baby sister!
Enjoy some of my favorites…
Fresh 48 sessions are simple, intimate newborn photography sessions that document the early quiet moments once your newborn baby arrives. They are held in the place of birth (hospital, home, or birth center) within the first couple of days of baby’s life. Maybe you’re thinking about hiring a birth photographer but aren’t sure if you want the entire thing documented? Fresh 48 / Birth Place Sessions are a perfect alternative! The photos from your session will help you remember the magic of that first day forever.
When photographing newborns either in the birth place or at home, I use a mix of documentary technique and gentle guidance. In such a confined space in order to get lots of variety, I’ll need to make sure the action moves around the room a bit! My favorite is when older siblings get in on it all. It’s so special to see them interact for the very first time, and some of my FAVORITE images of my own kids happened in the quiet days right after their siblings were born. Such love.
Are YOU expecting to have a baby at Magee (or anywhere!) and thinking of a Fresh 48 session? Let’s talk.
