TEN YEARS AGO I photographed this couple’s wedding. (How can it possibly be that long ago???!?) And now they are three kiddos in and it felt RIGHT to return and document their now.
After photographing their family as part of my North Park mini session event this fall, I knew these three girls would be a JOY to photograph in their home- their comfort zone- and I was right!
I arrived just as the school bus did, and got to hang out with the family as they slipped into their afternoon routine: playing with dolls, wrestling, dinner, and bath.
Thank you, Tracey, for being one of my greatest supporters, and for inviting me into your beautiful home!! It was an honor to capture these images for you. <3
I LOVE when families invite me into their home for their photo sessions. It is so special to capture your memories in the places where you make them the most!
For their documentary photo session, this mom and dad had me capture their normal, everyday life in their Wexford home. Hiding behind the couch, throwing around balls and pillows at each other, wrestling on the floor with Descendants 3 music playing in the background. From changing dolls’ diapers to sharing Halloween candy, it all felt very REAL. (Maybe because my own kids do the same exact things at home- Descendants and all!)
That’s my FAVORITE part of photographing families in their homes- the realness of it all. If I’m honest with myself, my FAVORITE memories from my own childhood are the same ones that I photographed in Tracey and Chris’s family photo session- wrestling with my dad, “debating” with my sister, making up dances in the living room. THAT is the album I would make to celebrate my childhood.
What memories would you put in your OWN childhood album?
BTW I prefer the video format but if you prefer having control to flip through the images, here are my favorite 35 or so photos from their session in the gallery below…
